Pastel Garden New Mexico Wedding | Tamika & Stephen

About Tamika & Stephen

As is becoming fairly common these days, Tamika and Stephen met on an online dating site. One date led to another and another and their romance was born. A year later, Stephen proposed. Tamika hails from Trinidad, although she entered the U.S. Air Force from Newark, New Jersey: She has called the Garden State home since she was about 12 years old.  Stephen, an IT professional,  was born and raised in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

Getting Ready

It was a beautiful Saturday morning. Tamika was in great spirits. After all, this was her wedding day. She and her bridesmaids had apparel and accessories scattered throughout the hotel suite. I gathered up her dress, shoes and other items to take these natural light detail photos. The sun streaming through the Windows was so beautiful! Both Tameka and her six-month-old baby daughter, Jordan, had two dresses for the day!  Tamika had picked out a stunning white lace wedding gown for the ceremony. She’d also picked out a beautiful pink pastel dress for Jordan to wear during the ceremony. They both had equally beautiful white dresses to wear to the reception; which would be four hours after the wedding. The maid of honor wore a white suit jacket with a pink vest and black slacks: Non-traditional, but sharp nonetheless! The other bridesmaid wore a dress in pastel pink. Tamika and her mom had a few moments to relax, so I shot these portraits. Just Before the limousine arrived to take Tameka to the church the girls had a quick champagne toast.  meanwhile the guys we're getting ready in another room at the hotel. The groomsmen helped Stephen with his tie, and we headed out for the church. Before the ceremony we had time to do a few GQ shots with the guys dressed in gray suits with pastel pink vests and ties.

The Ceremony

The ceremony was held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Deacon Smith as officiant. The bride’s and groom’s parents and the bridal party walked down the aisle and lined up in front of the church. The doors were closed and all of the guests stood in anticipation of Tamika's entrance. Finally, the doors were opened to reveal Tamika standing with her stepfather, Mark. She looked so beautiful in her wedding gown! It was a short Catholic wedding ceremony with the addition of a Unity Candle lighting. After the ceremony, we took the traditional family photos and then stepped outside the church for a few fun shots with the Bridal Party. Next, Tamika and Stephen enjoyed their newfound marital status as they cruised the city in a limousine.

The Reception

Later at the reception, Tamika and Stephen made their grand entrance! It was fun to see them dance their way into the ballroom to the tunes of Biggie Smalls, Bruno Mars, and Jagged Edge! After a sit down dinner they did the parent's dances then danced together as husband and wife for the first time some Trinidadian music. It was not a surprise to see both Stephen's parents and Tamika's parents with tears in their eyes - so happy to witness this beautiful occasion. Next came the toasts, the cake cutting, and the bouquet toss and garter toss. Of course, the bride and groom hammed it up and really had a good time! Finally, it was Party Time! Tamika did a Facebook live stream for her friends in Trinidad and New Jersey who couldn't make it to the wedding.
